  • Max Goes Fishing

    John Lowry

    eBook (, Oct. 4, 2017)
Max, an inquisitive German shepherd, follows Jerry everywhere. Max especially enjoys fishing trips. His specialty is romping in the water. Jerry, Max and friend, David, head to the slack water pond one day, just off the river, for a fishing outing. After they have been there a while, they observe a mysterious object bobbing and twisting in the eddy where the river empties into the pond. The boys are curious about this interesting object and discuss what to do. They watch as the object breaks free of the swirl and inches closer to them. Max is nervous and repeatedly barks his disapproval, but the boys decide to seek out the object, wading out chest deep into the water. Jerry then sees what the object is, and a quick retreat and a race back home is in order. Max's first impression was therby justified, however, he is disappointed that the trip ended so abruptly.

However, besides getting lessons about fishing, Grandpa also teaches Sammy about God, Jesus and being a good Christian. Grandpa begins his talk about defining what sin is to Sammy, stating that sin is how the devil deceives good boys and girls into doing bad things. Later, Grandpa brings up the Ten Commandments; as he says the Commandments teach children to honor their parents, share with others and to not do anything dishonest to make Jesus sad. Sammy learns Jesus wants to be our best friend, and he can cause this to happen by putting Jesus first and making good choices that will make both Jesus and God proud.
